FID GEO is a joint project of the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences in Potsdam and the Göttingen State and University Library. Since 2016, we have been offering services and consulting around Open Science in the geosciences.
FID GEO focuses on electronic publishing, research data, and digitization. On the one hand, they include the use and further development of the participating repositories for the publication of texts and data, GEO-LEOe-docs and GFZ Data Services, but also a comprehensive consulting portfolio.
Our main goals are to promote comprehensive access to digital knowledge resources for research and thus to contribute to the open information infrastructure. In the overarching context of Open Science, FID GEO takes a holistic view of the chain of scientific results in the geosciences - from sample to data and software to scientific article - and aims to ensure that the individual elements are digitally linked in the best possible way. From the very beginning of the funding, the areas of texts and data have been considered as two complementary components in the FID's service spectrum. In addition, the FID GEO is increasingly developing into a competence center for the transformation of the publication culture in the geosciences.
