NFDI Consortium „Earth System Research”

Created by Andreas Hübner | | Allgemein

As part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) Initiative of the Federal Council for Information Infrastructures (RfII), the NFDI4Earth community has been formed to meet the needs of Earth system research in the networking and harmonization of infrastructures, archives and services.

The envisioned NFDI Consortium “Earth System Research” (NFDI4Earth) forms the basis for identifying and articulating the needs of the community, linking existing infrastructures and managing and integrating new developments. At the same time, the consortium aims to jointly moderate and facilitate the cultural change due to the increasing digitization of research.

The first NFDI4Earth plenary meeting took place on 19.12.2018 at the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ) in Hamburg. The task was to indentify the key aspects and the main thrust of the future NFDI4Earth Consortium.

The most important result of the NFDI4Earth plenary meeting was the creation of 5 working groups, which will elaborate the structure and content of the application for an NDFI consortium until the 2nd NFDI4Earth plenary meeting on 21.2.2019 in Potsdam. In all, more than 40 colleagues from all the institutions represented at the workshop agreed to participate in the work in the individual working groups. The documentation of the NFDI4Earth plenary meeting is now available online.
